Maldives SHARK monitoring program,
organized by the Ministry of Tourism
of Maldives, is awake to every soul
and spirit on the importance of
sharks and responsibility towards
the protection of endangered species.
The surveillance program of the
Maldives Shark targets audiences
and tells General species of sharks
and observation. Observation card
gives adequate information on shark
species.
The running water in diving places
in the Maldives transfers nutrients
for marine life and attracts life.
Maldives enjoys a myriad of coral
reefs and rich marine life. 'Patrol
'is regarded as one of the friendliest
species of sharks in the Maldives.
With a total of 37 species, tourists
visiting Maldives spot sharks from
their hotel room overlooking the
crystal clear water of the Indian
Ocean.
To limit the harm to species of
sharks, the Government of Maldives
has taken several strict measures
to protect shark populations. No
fishing zone in the atolls and the
seven marine protected areas are
a few steps towards the protection
and maintenance of shark populations.
Today, there are 25 marine protected
areas.
The logo of Maldives Shark Monitoring
Program was established in October
2002. After preparing the program,
the Ministry of Tourism is promoting
the program of awareness.
Maldives Shark Monitoring Program
aims to project Maldives shark as
a friendly destination and to reduce
the exploitation of species of sharks.
The program was created with the
aim of sensitizing people about
the shark species and reduces damage
to these species. The program was
created by the Ministry of Tourism
in cooperation with the Maldives
Tourism Promotion Board, Marine
Research Center, diving centers,
tourist resorts, dive associations
in international industry and media.
